I wonder what is with the negative reception on Pope Francis? I could see him doing no harm.

oh gosh, where’s the popcorn?

And where, oh where, were all those who are (rightly) up in arms over nasty venomous personal comments against our Pope Francis when our Pope Benedict was being called God’s Rottweiler, a Nazi, criticized for ‘wearing Prada", criticized for his "anti-Muslim stance’, criticized for being ‘aloof’, 'wrapped up in antiquated dogma", called an elitist, uncaring, misquoted, etc. etc?

There was deafening silence then. Remarkable, isn’t it?

Really, it depends on who you ask. From those I have spoken to (who have a negative reception/perception/outlook/etc.), they think he is being purposefully vague in things he says, trying to encourage ideologies that are in conflict with Catholicism, being too ecumenical to the point of watering down the faith, downplaying the damage done by the so-called reformation, and providing clarifications to a particular Bishop (Argentina?) that were decidedly not in line with Catholic theology (I don’t recall exactly what the questions was…something about divorced/remarried receiving Eucharist without seeking nullity??). Most recently there was talk that he was trying to change the Lord’s Prayer. (What he REALLY did was suggest a better English translation to match the Spanish and Italian.)

A couple years ago I was a staunch defender of Pope Francis, quick to point out where the media has misreported or misrepresented what he said. These days, I simply respect the Office, and trust in Christ’s promise that the gates of hell won’t prevail against His Church. Afterall, there have been FAR worse Popes in our history, in my opinion.

Upon first reading the title of the thread, I thought it was about people who don’t like France.

For the record, I love French Fries, French Toast, French Onion Soup, and French Vanilla Ice Cream. Wow! This discussion is making me hungry!

I Love Pope Francis !!! He is wonderful and kind. I think that he’s so published, loved, watched, and followed, that whatever he does or says tends to be examined under a microscope. Dissenters are either jealous of his influence, or non Catholics… just my thoughts on it.
