I’m with Contarini on this one. He has a valid point. You might not always be intentional in coming across that way, but you do. It is what it is. Do what you like with it.
As stated: Opinions vary and others would disagree with you too,so do what you like with it.

Was just in a class where we discussed how there is no one uniform definition for this, and it is commonly used in the press without really knowing what it means. What would you say “Evangelical” means and is it possible to be an Evangelical Catholic?
“Evangelical” certainly is a well worn word. I think the media’s usage would render “Protestant Conservative” as a the definition it is looking for.

I self identify as an Evangelical. I think in regards to what I mean when I say I am an Evangelical Christian. I mean that I actively seek out opportunity to share the good news of Christ.

Are there are Evangelical Catholics? Certainly, I have met a few.

Refuse to communicate rationally or civilly? Seriously? Opinions vary my friend because others here would disagree with you. At times it seems you are here merely to stir the pot against Catholicism regardless if you acknowledge it or not…
This has nothing to do with “stirring the pot against Catholicism.” You see anti-Catholicism behind every bush. (If you live in the South, you have reason for this, because it is behind every bush there–here in the Midwest, only behind every third bush, and that’s because behind every second bush there is a Catholic!:p).

I have given you a Catholic definition of “evangelical,” as in “evangelical poverty.” Are you telling me that you’ve never heard the word used that way?

So you are telling me the Catholic Church specifically uses your definition and understanding? Care to lead me to a CC source or document confirming your position?

It’s not “mine.” I agree that Catholics and Protestants use different definitions. Both are legitimate in their context–I think that the Catholic one is actually truer to the root meaning of the word. The point is that neither meaning is the same thing as “evangelistic.” You weren’t expressing a traditional Catholic meaning of the word when you used the word that way–you were just mixing up two similar words.

As just one example of traditional Catholic usage of the word, see this CE article on the “Evangelical Counsels.”

On the contrary, I did express it correctly, perhaps you have yuor understandings confused.

One meaning of Gospel: A teaching or doctrine of a religious teacher.

Evangelical counsel as stated by the YouCat:

Poverty, unmarried, and obedience are the counsels given in the Gospel for imitating Jesus.

Nothing I said about is a mixture of terms:

**We should all be evangelizing/teaching (As Catholics we should teaching about poverty or take vows of poverty, unmarried (sexual abstinence) and obedience to the Church/God)…sharing the Good News (Gospel),especially the baptized. **
