I chose Apocalypse, because it hasn’t been fulfilled yet,
it’s the best example of how we really are NOW still living
within the timeframe of God’s Plan. I also do read it very literally,
I do not believe it is in any way symbolic.
Make sure you read it in the context of the books of Exodus, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Joel, Isaiah and Zechariah - heck, make that the entire Old Testament 😉 - along with a smattering of other works in the apocalyptic genre. 😃

The Lamb’s Supper by Scott Hahn would be a good read for you. Revelation is indeed figurative and symbolic, yet also tells of things to come (and that have already happened!). It also explains very well our understanding of the Mass.

I’d say right now John is my favorite, though all the New Testament fascinates me. The Old is a bit more difficult, and I haven’t delved into it too much. Psalms is awesome, though.

I would not dare to say that it is anything but literal.
That is my strong belief.

Tobit - definitely the comedy section of the Bible

A bird poops in Tobit’s eye

His son Tobias falls in love with a woman who’s been married 7 times

All the husbands died on their wedding night

Tobias proceeds to married the girl anyway.

meanwhile, her family is out digging a hole for his impending death.

Throughout the whole story, Tobias carries a stinky, dead fish.

Moral of the story: God answers prayers. Tobit is healed of his blindness and Tobias survives his wedding night.

Don’t forget the dog! 😃

Romans for me.

St Paul affirms the wealth of mercy that God has given from the beginning and the faith that saves and Sacraments by which we may know our faith is true. Then he assures us that our salvation is God’s doing and so our faith is believing His promise and not our assent to His standard. Then Paul tells us to do all we can to live daily in light of this by being a living sacrifice to God.

So much good news it is difficult to summarize.

God Bless
