I was reading psalms the night before and came across Psalm 63 and it is one of my favorites.
If anyone has another I would be glad to know.

O GOD, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.

3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.

4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.

5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:

6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.

7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.

9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.

10 They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.

11 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped

I love alot of the Psalms, so I don’t have a preference. But the shortest one that pretty summarises the whole book is Psalm 117.
(Psa 117:1)** O Praise the Lord, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.**

(Psa 117:2)** For his mercy is confirmed upon us: and the truth of the Lord remaineth for ever.**

And don’t forget Psalm 121 and the Miserere, which is Psalm 51, is very beautiful. I can’t post it here because it’s too long, but anyways, God bless! 🙂

(Psa 121:1)** A gradual canticle. **

I have lifted up my eyes to the mountains, from whence help shall come to me.
(Psa 121:2)
** My help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.**

(Psa 121:3)** May he not suffer thy foot to be moved: neither let him slumber that keepeth thee.**

(Psa 121:4)** Behold he shall neither slumber nor sleep, that keepeth Israel.**

(Psa 121:5)** The Lord is thy keeper, the Lord is thy protection upon thy right hand.**

(Psa 121:6)** The sun shall not burn thee by day: nor the moon by night.**

(Psa 121:7)** The Lord keepeth thee from all evil: may the Lord keep thy soul.**

(Psa 121:8)** May the Lord keep thy coming in and thy going out; from henceforth now and for ever.**

PSALM 116:6

The Lord preserveth the simple: I was brought low and He helped me …

the Miserere, which is Psalm 51, is very beautiful.
That’s my favorite…just take a look at my signature quote 😃

“To thee only have I sinned, and have done evil before thee: that thou mayst be justified in thy words and mayst overcome when thou art judged.”

Here’s the beginning of the Psalm:

Psalm 50 (51)

1
Unto the end, a psalm of David,
2 when Nathan the prophet came to him after he had sinned with Bethsabee.
3 Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy great mercy. And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my iniquity.
4 Wash me yet more from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
5 For I know my iniquity, and my sin is always before me.

1 In finem Psalmus David
2 Cum venit ad eum Nathan propheta quando intravit ad Bethsabee
3 Miserere mei Deus secundum magnam misericordiam tuam et secundum multitudinem miserationum tuarum dele iniquitatem meam
4 Amplius lava me ab iniquitate mea et a peccato meo munda me
5 Quoniam iniquitatem meam ego cognosco et peccatum meum contra me est semper

Hello Fogny,

King David gives us some of the clearest descriptions of Jesus in his psalms. We know that it is Jesus who is at the Father’s Right Hand. King David, a sinner, might not of known the name Jesus, but King David certianly knew his Saviour the Right Hand of God who is, as we know Him, Jesus Christ. King David gives thanks and praise to Jesus for his salvation in his psalms.

NAB MAT 26:64

Jesus answered: “It is you who say it. But I tell you this: Soon you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” NAB PSA 80:18

May your help be with the man of your right hand
, with the son of man whom you yourself made strong.

NAB PSA 118:15

The joyful shout of victory in the tents of the just: "The right hand
of the LORD has struck with power: The right hand of the LORD is exalted; the right hand of the LORD has struck with power." I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD. Though the LORD has indeed chastised me, yet he has not delivered me to death. Open to me the gates of justice; I will enter them and give thanks to the LORD. This gate is the LORD’s; the just shall enter it. I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me and have been my savior. The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. By the LORD has this been done; it is wonderful in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it. O LORD, grant salvation! O LORD, grant prosperity! (MAT 21:42)

NAB PSA 98:1

Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done wondrous deeds; His right hand has won victory for him, his holy arm. The LORD has made his salvation known: in the sight of the nations he has revealed his justice. He has remembered his kindness and his faithfulness toward the house of Israel. **All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation by our God.**NAB WIS 5:15

But the just live forever, and in the LORD is their recompense, and the thought of them is with the Most High. Therefore shall they receive the splendid crown, the beauteous diadem, from the hand of the LORD - For he shall shelter them with his right hand, and protect them with his arm.NAB PSA 77:16

With your strong arm you redeemed your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph.NIV PSA 45:4

In your majesty ride forth victoriously in behalf of truth, humility and righteousness; let your right hand display awesome deeds.NIV PSA 138:7

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes, with your right hand you save me.NIV PSA 108:6

Save us and help us with your right hand
, that those you love may be delivered.
**NAB PSA 21:9 **(Jesus destroys Satan and all evil.)May your hand reach all your enemies, may your right hand reach your foes! Make them burn as though in a fiery furnace, when you appear. May the LORD consume them in his anger; let fire devour them.NAB PSA 48:11

As your name, O God, so also your praise reaches to the ends of the earth. Of justice your right hand is full; let Mount Zion be glad, Let the cities of Judah rejoice, because of your judgments. (PSA 78:54)

NAB ISA 53:4 (Isaiah to the Israelites)

Who would believe what we have heard? To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? He grew up like a sapling before him, like a shoot from the parched earth; There was in him no stately bearing to make us look at him, nor appearance that would attract us to him. He was spurned and avoided by men, a man of suffering, accustomed to infirmity, One of those from whom men hide their faces, spurned, and we held him in no esteem. Yet it was our infirmities that he bore, our sufferings that he endured, While we thought of him as stricken, as one smitten by God and afflicted. But he was pierced for our offenses, crushed for our sins, Upon him was the chastisement that makes us whole, by his stripes we were healed. We had all gone astray like sheep, each following his own way; But the LORD laid upon him the guilt of us all.

Peace in Christ,

psalm 51

have mercy on me God etc. very powerful and shows just how weak we really are

I have 2 favorites:
Psalm 1 RSV
1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so, but are like chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalm 51 RSV
1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy steadfast love; according to thy abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!
3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned,
and done that which is evil in thy sight, so that thou art justified in thy sentence and blameless in thy judgment.
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Fill me with joy and gladness; let the bones which thou hast broken rejoice.
9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of thy salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
13 Then I will teach transgressors thy ways, and sinners will return to thee.
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of thy deliverance.
15 O Lord, open thou my lips, and my mouth shall show forth thy praise.
16 For thou hast no delight in sacrifice;
were I to give a burnt offering, thou wouldst not be pleased.
17 The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart,
O God, thou wilt not despise.
18 Do good to Zion in thy good pleasure; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem,
19 then wilt thou delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on thy altar.

Not got a personal fave yet…

In the meantime my mum’s was the 23rd Psalm:

“The Lord is my Shepherd” …

It is part of her Mass Cards together with the Salve Regina (which I have a few probs with but you never know, I might learn to worship Mary 😉 )

Voce mea. A prayer of David in extremity of danger.
Psalm 142
1 Of understanding for David. A prayer when he was in the cave. [1 Kings 24] 2 I cried to the Lord with my voice: with my voice I made supplication to the Lord. 3 In his sight I pour out my prayer, and before him I declare my trouble: 4 When my spirit failed me, then thou newest my paths. 5 I looked on my right hand, and beheld, and there was no one that would know me. Flight hath failed me: and there is no one that hath regard to my soul.

6 I cried to thee, O Lord: I said: Thou art my hope, my portion in the land of the living. 7 Attend to my supplication: for I am brought very low. Deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I. 8 Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the just wait for me, until thou reward me.

Is it cheating to say “all of them”?? I have found that no matter where you are, how you feel, what you are thinking(or not), there is a psalm for that…
And they are so honest!! I mean, whatever the psalmist feels/thinks/etc, he just says it!!

I like them all, doing Liturgy of the hours; I get to read them over and over. Every time my eyes are open to mysteries God reveals to us.

I try to be open to the Spirit, to work in my life day after day.

Listening to the Psalms being chanted at an Abby is a real spiritual experience.

Psalm 51 since I have constant recourse to the mercy of God…

Ps:51:
Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy great mercy. And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my iniquity.
Wash me yet more from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my iniquity, and my sin is always before me.
To thee only have I sinned, and have done evil before thee: that thou mayst be justified in thy words, and mayst overcome when thou art judged.
For behold I was conceived in iniquities; and in sins did my mother conceive me.
For behold thou hast loved truth: the uncertain and hidden things of thy wisdom thou hast made manifest to me.
Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.
To my hearing thou shalt give joy and gladness: and the bones that have been humbled shall rejoice.
Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.
Create a clean heart in me, O God: and renew a right spirit within my bowels.
Cast me not away from thy face; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and strengthen me with a perfect spirit.
I will teach the unjust thy ways: and the wicked shall be converted to thee.
Deliver me from blood, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall extol thy justice.
O Lord, thou wilt open my lips: and my mouth shall declare thy praise.
For if thou hadst desired sacrifice, I would indeed have given it: with burnt offerings thou wilt not be delighted.
A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Deal favourably, O Lord, in thy good will with Sion; that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up.
Then shalt thou accept the sacrifice of justice, oblations and whole burnt offerings: then shall they lay calves upon thy altar.
