What is your favorite volunteer work? How did you choose it? How often do you go?

For me, I love to work with the poor and needy. Mother Teresa said that in everyone of those that she helps is Jesus in disguise. She is right!

I like working in the soup kitchen. I go at least two Saturdays a month…more often if I don’t have to work.

Mostly I’ve chosen things that get a notice in the bulletin saying they need people for it. Then I call and see if they need me (with my particular skills). How I pick which notice is by my life. If I am already loaded up with activities, I don’t go answering calls in the bulletin. If I am short on activities, then I read it to see where I can help.

Well, I believe my 4-year experience in Legion of Mary influenced me a lot.

I truly enjoy visiting people, whether in hospital or at home. Don’t get me wrong, I am not happy to know that there are sick people, but I learnt a lot from meeting people.

Used to do it once a week as my allocated work, but since I migrated to another country, I haven’t got involved in the Legion of Mary around here.

Boy Scouts. I have 2 boys and this is something I can do with them. Not only are the leadership positions in Scouting volunteer, the boys also work on service projects. We meet every week, and sometimes there are other things that need doing DURING the week.

My 2nd favorite volunteer activity is scheduling the altar servers at church. This is not very labor intensive - a couple of hours every couple of months to make up a new schedule, copy it, and send it out. I am also working on a “field trip” for the servers and a couple of times a year, we have a training for new servers and a refresher for “experienced” servers. An hour or so of time.
