What kind of Catholic game do you want to see?

I’m a game designer, and one of the biggest reasons that I studied this field is to make a new medium for Catholics and people of faith. So far I’m aware of two brothers that are making a king David game, but what would you guys like to see in a game like this in the future?

I would like you to make a game about a catholic exorcist. The primary weapons are cross and holy water to sprinkle on evil spirit. Each stage has a bonus. For example, if you defeated major evil spirit in Saint Michael’s Shrine, you will get a new sword weapon from him to defend yourself. From Saint Faustina’s shrine, you will get a double red and white ray which can shoot from your heart. The final boss is of course the Satan.

That just gave me a great idea, I never thought about making a game about a catholic exorcist.

From the way I see it, I can make the game in two ways. I can make it a simple 2d game or make it a 3D adventure game.

Great! Please keep us updated and I would very much like to play your game. I have some experience working using 3Ds Max. Maybe I could contribute some 3D assets in case you need any.

For some reason I want to play a game that’s lets you live in a life of a priest to nun

Maybe we should start an indie company. However, first I gotta write the story and i’ll let you guys contribute and reedit it as well.

@Maxwell03

Kids need to learn their catechism, a game could make that fun. A catechism game for mobile would be neat, too.

I think I remember people made a David game unlike the one that i posted, and it was a mobile game. It kinda had that Disney activity center feel to it.

That or a parish simulator. The player gets to be the parish administrator (not the parish priest, both sexes should be able to relate, haha), and they gotta make sure that everything in the parish is in good working order.

Kinda like this hospital game:

If you are leaning toward any “game” associated with evil, or exorcism, or satan or demons, I first would strongly warn you to not do it. If you want to anyway, I strongly urge you to find a good, sober, wise and holy spiritual director to advise you every step of the way in your work. And I would advise you to commit to listen to him very, very carefully. Evil is not in any sense, “a game.” You would be playing with fire - or worse than fire, deadly poison - or worse than deadly poison, evil.

Eve and Adam would have been better off never entering into conversation with the serpent/evil - never entering into dialogue with one much more clever and cunning than they were. he knows how to make evil look good, and lies sound attractive and wise.

There have been other suggestions on the thread - I hope you will seek holy prudence in just how, if at all, you can use this medium to advance the work of God’s Kingdom. See, already temptations have come! Probably anything associated with evil would SELL. Foolish people delight in playing with evil, and playing with Truth and with holy things so as to make themselves superior to them. Such are the temptations of the evil one…

Be careful.

I understand your concern, though as stated it is another medium, and just recently I’ve seen a game based on the book called “Pillars of the Earth” it’s an interesting book, that they managed to make a game adaption about. However, the game wasn’t very catholic friendly so to speak, despite that one of the characters that you play is a Catholic monk.

The entire plot is about a builder wanting to build a grand cathedral, but the builder would face opposition from the corrupt nobleman and bishops.

These games that truly depend on story or something simple as the one stated above you, can be a really great game that also educates people.

The greatest challenge in the world, is to be in the world but not of it. Many people try to find the “great compromise” that will allow loving God and Mammon. Jesus said (I paraphrase), ‘forget it; you can’t.’

Something like the total war series but focused on the crusades and reconquista

Medieval II: Total War’s got a Crusades add-on where you can play as the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

It was fun to play against Saladin but I got busy and forgot about it. Along came Europa Universalis III, then I got Fallout New Vegas. Might pick up the Crusades campaign again in the future. Deus Vult.

Interesting. I never knew that. I’ll have to look into it when I get back home.

I tried Europa but it was too complex for my dumb self lol

Don’t say that about yourself. It really was tricky to play at first. I think the same goes for Hearts of Iron, but I won’t be touching that game until I can get me a very long staycation sometime.

That add-on is quite fun. I’ve never been tempted to play the Muslim side because the Crusader factions are just so darn cool. Even just to look at.
