I prefer to think of it as a thoughtful and reverent work of art which may be a source of inspiration for us.

I have a fairly broad range of art I like. It may be a source of inspiration to some But it would be a source if distraction to me. The fact that I don’t like it, doesn’t make it bad though.
I do think it is unwise to get too “creative” with religious art in prominent locations in a church, as the percentage of people inspired by it will likely not be too high

I think so too – now that I’ve had it explained to me. I didn’t grasp the symbolism at first sight.
