What kind of sin is it?

A woman and I are friends for over 18 years and we had sex time to time. Is it a sin to do so because I treat her as if she is my wife. What kind of sin is it? I have asked her to marry me, but due to personal reasons, she does not want to marry me. Help? Is my salvation in jeopardy?
 
Dear friend,

Yes to all the above. Having sex with a person to whom one is not married is the mortal sin of fornication. This can certainly jeopardize one’s salvation. I suggest that you read the book, “Good News About Sex and Marriage,” by Christopher West (shop.catholic.com).
