Why did God create giant, monstrous reptiles and wipe them out before He created man? Did He just know kids would love the toys? Is it just something else for man to discover, explore, and ponder? Are there any serious Catholic theories?

The only reasonable theory I’ve heard is that dinosaurs were simply a way that showed God’s Glory and were destroyed concurrently to the fall of man to ensure humanity’s survival. This, of course, would be hinged on a non-literal Genisis, which is neither supported nor denied by Catholic Doctrine.

They had thier season perhaps to remind us now that life is short.

To turn into the coal and oil that drives our modern society. Its called planning ahead!

So that Pebbles and Bam Bam would have a pet to play with? What??? Oh wait, you’re telling me The Flintstones was NOT a documentary. Bummer …

In my experience, the main purpose of dinosaurs was to give 5-year-old human boys something to be fascinated by 😃

I don’t see why they need a purpose, aside from being amazing and awesome and wonderful. And that’s pretty much the purpose of humans, too. God has made us for nothing more important than for being the wonders we are by nature.
