What must I do about my vasectomy?

Please help me with an extremely difficult question. My wife and I are both Catholics. We had a nuptial Mass.

With our first child my wife had pregnancy induced hypertension. It was so critical that pregnancy had to be induced. With our second child even with precautions taken and with a doctors care. Once again she experienced pregnancy induced hypertension. We were alerted to the criticality of this when she was seeing spots in she shower. The birth of our second child was also an induced birth. My wife’s doctor strongly advised her against getting pregnant again due to the risk for her and the child she would be carrying. Some time much later after the birth of our second child we stated to discuss what we should do. The doctor’s strict warning rang loudly in both our ears regarding the risk of subsequent pregnancies. After much discussion it was determined that I should get a vasectomy. This was decided since it was the lowest risk procedure. We are quite a few years away form that decision and a bit more mature and informed. Also, I am more in tune with Catholic teachings. I realize that strictly speaking I have been in the state of sin ever since I got the vasectomy. What should I do?

Hi,

Simply confess that sin in Confession and it will be forgiven. By the way, you are not required to have a reversal operation in order to have relations with your wife.
