What name will next Pope choose?

You said it before I had the chance! When I said Ignatius I didn’t realize how close it would come. Bonus prize: This leaves Ignatius free for when I’m pope.

Is he being called Francis or Francis I?

I ask because I’m seeing both in official looking places.

Because there has not been a Papal name without a Roman numeral since 790, except the too-brief accession of John Paul I; I imagine the I is there to stay. After all, it will be needed once there is a Francis II. The Church is that long-minded

Congratulations to dande(name removed by moderator)mie who wanted the Pope to chose the name ‘Francis’, and he did!

Why did he choose that name?

I am guessing because the Lord is asking him, same as he asked st Francis of Assisi, to rebuild His Church.

Also because he is so kind and humble, as st Francis of Sales, and he wants to evangelize, as st Francis of Sales did.

And last but not least because a jesuit saint, st Francis Xavier, it the patron saint of the missions and missionaries, and this Pope will have to travel the world spreading the Good News.

I was going to mention there wasn’t a Pope Francis yet and the name for Pope was long over due. btw I chose St. Francis for my Confirmation saint/name… that’s why I hoping for a Pope Francis.
