A new modern day group with the thinking they can run the church with their women priests and many other outrageous beliefs. (homosexuality etc.)

Catholic Action? I thought it was Call to Action. The latter are liberal dissenters in the Church.

Gerry 🙂

Maybe you are referring to A Call To Action, a dissident liberal grouping of Catholics promoting a variety of heterodox causes such as homosexuality and women’s ordination, often referred to as the mother of all liberal dissident groups. When I first read the title of this thread, I likewise thought it referred to A Call To Action, when it was in fact Catholic Action, which is an altogether different group. I’m glad I was mistaken.

Gerry 🙂

I believe Catholic Action is a lay group based in Italy. It seems pretty orthodox…the Pope recently beatified three members when he was at Loretto, and canonized another member, St Gianna Molla, earlier this year. Don’t confuse it with A Call To Action (aka A Call to Heresy)😃

Wasn’t Catholic Action started by Dorothy Day or one of her contemporaries?

No I believe Dorothy Day started the Catholic Worker

boy am I the oldest person on these forums? Catholic Action I believe started in Italy, but it was very active in the US up until the 60s, it was a rather militant organization, aimed to involve youth, young adults, young married couples in evangelization, prayer and spiritutal growth. Its purpose was to counteract similar organizations sponsored by communist or socialist groups in Europe that targeted youth, and in this country had a strong anti-communist stance. Also at least in this country tried to counter-act protestant teaching and stance that was ingrained in the public schools and public life, to the detriment of the Catholic view. I understand it is undergoing a resurgence in Italy and parts of eastern Europe. Very traditional, very orthodox,

not at all the same as Call To Action founded in Detroit in 1976 by Gumbleton and cronies, including disgruntled former leaders of Christian Family Movement (which had been a very orthodox group for married couples) protesting Humanae Vitae, went on to be big voice for dissent de jour, including women priests, homosexual marriage and all the rest of the slop. Check out their website for links so you know at a glance who IS NOT really Catholic, a good place to find heretics R us.

Catholic Action is also under the patronage of Paul the Apostle and St. Gabriel Possenti.
