In the basic of terms I would say this…without God the Father we would not be here because He is the Creator and sustainer of all life…without God the Son we could not be able to enter Heaven because He alone open the gates of Heaven and redeemed us by His Life, Death and Resurrection…with God the Holy Spirit we grow in holiness to come to know God the Father and God the Son because God the Holy Spirit is the expression of the ultimate Love between the two. It is God the Holy Spirit that offers us the spiritual virtues and gifts that are needed to strengthen our spiritual lives to realize our own sinfulness and to be willing to repent and convert our lives (the Holy Spirit is best described by Jesus in the Gospel of John 15 &16)

May God Bless you for seeking this answer in the most basic of terms in order that you may clearly pass it on…hope this has helped.

One of the Eastern fathers said that the only two options we have are the Holy Trinity or hell.

It’s to the former we are called–the “eternal life” that Jesus promised in John 3:16 is to be drawn up into the life of the Holy Trinity and share His unique kind of life.

In a nutshell - it shows us what true love is - a communion of persons. One can not live in isolation, without evangelizing, or alone and still truly love.

The Trinity shows us what a marriage should be.

The Trinity shows us how to be good fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, etc…

Most importantly, the Trinity shows us that God is truly Love.
