Hello,

So, I’m not really near going to seminary. But, I was just wondering if there are any priests or seminarians who know what questions they ask you in formal interviews for religious orders or seminary admissions and such? Also, is the psychological testing just to see if you’re crazy or not or is the psychologist going to try to uproot some crazy things about yourself that you didn’t even know to disqualify you (lol). Also, I don’t suffer from SSA, but do they test people for that and how would they even go about that?

Looking forward to answers, anything helps!

Speak to your Vocations Director. There is not one interview but a series of discussions and a period of discernment that lasts years

The questions they ask would vary by diocese or religious order but they focus on more or less the same key areas. Family life, past religious experience, relationships, how you interact with others, past acts or service both in the Church and in the world, why you feel called to the priesthood or religious life, etc.

The psychological evaluation isn’t just to see if you experience mental illness. It also determines if you have the level of psychological and emotional maturity and stability that is required for that particular vocation. The goal of the evaluation is to see if there are areas in which you struggle and find ways to help you heal and move forward. In some cases the evaluation may reveal an issue that would keep you from that vocation or it may reveal an area that would require counselling etc.
