My niece is finally being baptized in July 2009 and I’m having trouble finding the appropriate gown for a 4-year-old to wear. Should it still be traditional and long? Should she still wear a bonnet? Please help.
The Church doesn’t regulate such things. Feel free to dress the child in any appropriately dressy outfit suitable to her age. There is a custom of wearing white for baptisms, so if you can find a dressy white dress, that would be nice. And no, the child doesn’t need an infant’s bonnet. If you want her to wear a head covering, pick one that is appropriate for her age.
