I am relatively new to the faith and in the last few years have moved to a new town where I have a lot of acquaintances but no best friend.I have 3 children in a conservative Catholic school. The parish here is a lot more strict about baptismal requirements, one has to have two Godparents and they both have to be confirmed and practicing. My older children’s Godmother is now divorced and not practicing her faith. I am in an awkward situation as I have a new baby I want baptized. There are a lot of nice Catholics I know but I’m not really that close to any of them and I feel like they would think I was weird to ask them to be my babies’ Godparent . I asked the mother of one of my sons’ friends and she said yes. She said her son could act as Godfather since I don’t actually know her husband that well. None of my relatives are practicing Catholics except a 70 year old uncle and his wife who might do it, but again he lives in another state and wouldn’t be able to attend the ceremony. What is the etiquette of a situation like this?
