Hello,

I’m a faithful Catholic (to the best of my ability) but my Christian wife doesn’t want to stop using contraceptive devices ( an IUD to be exact). I’ve told her why I do not wish to continue using ABC but she refuses to stop even when I’ve shown her scientific studies proving the effectiveness of NFP and the possible harm ABC can have on a woman.

Am I culpable in the killing of all these possible children conceived and what can I do more other than separating?

We’ve been married for 6 years and have two wonderful kids.

I’m at a loss as to what to do now. Can you help?
God Bless

Hi,

The Church allows a Catholic to continue relations with a spouse who contracepts so long as it is the contracepting spouse who is actually practicing it. It remains the duty of the Catholic who does not want to contracept to explain the Church’s teaching on the matter and to continue to encourage the other to stop.
