I know it will not sit well with my browser company, but I think there should be a tool to block out part of the screen when I am reading a page. Lately, I have these little ads that highlight a snake or a bug and it is distracting. C’mon guys, it’s driving me crazy.

If using Firefox search for an extension called “nuke anything”. U can literally remove any piece of a page with a few clicks.

Edit: That said, there’s an implied gentleman’s agreement that ads and tracking are the price of free.

Sometimes I click on a link for the purpose of reading an article. The operative word is “reading.” I’m looking for black text on a white background. If I can’t read without being subjected to flashing lights, unwanted videos, flashing ads, or low contrast backgrounds, it’s not worth the effort. Sometimes free just costs too much. Nothing on the internet is free.

PS: what browsers, and computers need is an adjustable analog brightness and contrast control dial. At my eyes’ advanced age, it seems everything is low contrast, and the fixes the computer provides are worthless.

Consider using a “high contrast” theme. Your apps may look a bit ugly but the palette is specifically designed for contrast. My employer had that setup for an employee who was legally blind. As for browsers, idk. Seems a lot of that is based on who designed the website. Maybe others can chime in on accessibility options for browsers.

The old black & white TV had a manual dial to adjust contrast. It worked fine. But digital seems to have trouble fixing simple things.

I use a Chrome app called Stylebot. Provided you have a basic understanding of CSS, you can customise the stylesheet for any website you visit. You can just hide any elements you want. Great for certain news sites you visit often but can’t stand looking at partially clad celebrities etc. in the sidebar.
