Ever get so disgusted with the news…so tired of finding out all the sick and perverse things that are going on in the world that it literally starts to make you tired?

I am REALLY starting to feel grossed out and burned out especially when it comes to pro-life vs. pro-abortion stuff. I know I should go pray for a while but anyone got any other advice, too? What do you do when the ways of the world are stressing you out?

Turn off the news and find a pint of Ben & Jerry’s. Find a nice spot in the backyard and watch the sun go down. 😃

Okay, that’s a little flip…but I’m serious about turning off the news.

Boycotting Ben and Jerry’s… the sunset thing sounds like a good idea though. 🙂

I don’t think it’s flip at all … in fact I think you hit the nail on the head.

I like to look at the sky, it is always there, always different and always beautiful. I turn my head way up, so that the only thing I can see is the sky, and I pretend that everything else is gone, the houses, the cars, the buildings

… just me looking at the sky … and God.

Then I wait and eventually a bird flies across the sky in my line of vision, and I remind myself that when God created the world, he saw that it was good.

I don’t know why, but this always makes me feel better … more hopeful.

God bless, I know how you feel.

I know what you mean.

I actually just wrote in my blog about this amomfortruth.blogspot.com/

I keep telling myself that I am going to stop watching the news, reading the internet news, etc. But by doing so I feel like I am uninformed.

The best thing to do is to limit your time listening to this stuff. Remember that on many occasions the secular news exaggerates a lot and will use negative headlines to woo watchers.

Have you tried getting your news from a catholic news service? Try catholic.org/cathcom/#703

One last thing, always focus on hope and “Be Not Afraid”. :yup:

God Bless You!

Excellent advice, everyone. Ice cream is a solution to all the world’s problems. I think we should dose up Kim Jong Il, Vladimir Putin, Dubya, Tony Blair, and a bunch of ayatollahs up on Raspberry Ripple and the planet would be much happier.

Failing that, we should administer high doses of Chocolate Fudge flavor. 😃

Spend 1 week with all media news and (name removed by moderator)ut turned off/tuned out. Then take the time usually spent in listening and dwelling on news events, and devote this time to prayer and reading edifying Christian literature. Then look for opportunities to make a difference each day in the life or circumstance of others in your life.

Turn off the news.

Rather than choose good news, the media prefers to publish and broadcast bad news. And the media publishes and broadcasts the bad news in such a way that it makes people feel helpless and angry. The media presents things as being hopeless.

Not reading and listening to news makes people feel a lot better.

That is great advice. I just keep thinking - oh but I just have to see what’s going on, and it’s really hard to tear myself away!

And wow, I am missing a lot anyway Lynnie, I had no idea there were famines and locusts already. Yikes. Well, come Lord Jesus. I’m gonna try and be ready.

Another thing I would recommend is to take a look at history. Evil always ends up failing, even if it takes a long time. When I look at what has happened in the past and see that it eventually passed, it makes me more hopeful that what we’re dealing with right now will also pass.

Thanks, but even if hard times are ahead, we still have to get through them with faith in the next life.

I love your signature by the way!

Keep your tv tuned to EWTN and/or your AM radio tuned into a Catholic station, if you can get it. EWTN is also available by live stream on your computer. I haven’t listened to news via tv or radio since the 2004 presidential election, and I haven’t missed a thing. If there’s an emergency like 9-1-1, I’m sure someone will call me. Usually, I get my news update by reading the posts on this forum.

Your spirit will be renewed, I promise, and you’ll learn more about your faith at the same time. :bounce:

(Occasionally I’ll watch cartoons with the kids. Some of them are pretty funny.)
