I purchased an NAB a while ago. I have never previously possessed or read the Bible PERIOD (I’m pretty new to my faith), so it seemed like a good decision (I’d heard it’s the translation used in mass readings, etc.). Now, after reading these forums a bit, it seems like an absolutely horrible one. I’ve already decided to outright ignore any and all footnotes and commentary. Now I am trying to decide what to do. I, as well as the rest of my family, have very little money, so I don’t feel like I can justify going out and buying a new Bible when I already have one. Also, I know there are online bibles with better commentary and possibly better translation as argued by much of what I’ve read here. But this is a bit of a problem, since I don’t find reading off a computer screen as spiritually fulfilling as holding the book in my hands. It seems unfulfilling and dry, not to mention the fact that I like to read for a while and the screen becomes a bit uncomfortable to look at with all that luminescent black on white. So I find myself caught in a bit of a quandary. Is this edition fine to read as long as I steer clear of the commentary? Or must I resort to reading off a computer until I get a better translation?
