What to do AFTER Receiving Communion

I always kneel after I receive the Blessed Sacrament and when I get to my pew. And then when the priest sits I usually just sit down as well until he asks us to stand and pray.

I noticed my in-laws remain standing and then kneel once the priest sits which is something I have never seen before.

I honestly don’t know if there is a right or wrong way to do this but I think it is important to keep traditional Catholic practices alive. I can’t imagine remaining standing…especially after receiving the Blessed Sacrament when Christ is present within you. If he appeared to us in full human form we most likely wouldnt’ remain standing.

And I’ve never been to a traditional Catholic mass…my parish is quite modern…in looks as well as practice although I think our priest is trying to change some things around.

So what IS the traditional way to receive communion after we have received it?

Not all “traditions” are the same place everywhere, or ever have been, even in the Latin church.
 
So what your saying is that the method I feel is right is alright then?
 
Oh I am not worried about that…I just see people doing different things and so I was curious.

I was taught to return to my pew and kneel until the priest puts the Eucharist in the tabernacule. Then it is okay to sit. That is the “proper” way as taught in the United States by the sisters anyway. It is a sign of respect.

According to Mass Confusion, there are no official rubrics for posture at Communion. It is, without a doubt, the most inconsistent part of the mass in all the parishes I’ve visited. Some stand, some kneel, some sit until receiving then kneel, some sit before and after, and at one parish, where many if not most of the congregation is made up of visitors because it’s in a resort area, I see it all at the same time.

Personally, I think it’s best to kneel and say prayers of thanksgiving, but that might be because that’s how I was raised.
 
It certainly makes sense to return to our pews and kneel to pray. What you observed is probably what was heard in another parish; some priests are telling people to do this - stand until… It seems dictatorial to do this and lacking in reverence IMHO.
