What to do during Adoration?

The first time I went, I was armed with a Rosary, a spiritual book and a journal. I started as suggested just gazing upon Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and chased away distracting thoughts as they popped up. Long story short the hour was over so quickly I never got to the Rosary or reading! Since then I allocate two hours spending the first hour “just being” and the second hour reading and journaling or saying the Rosary.

Again dont’ worry about doing anything…just BE and be blessed!
👍
My first hour was at 1am covering for good friend… brought a borrowed Rosary and a book on how to pray it ( I was in RCIA at the time) sat down in the pew looking at the monstrance… amazing how fast that first hour went and I never did pray that Rosary… intended to.

I remember reading a book by a priest who said as a younger man he’d kind of pooh poohed the simple faith of his grandmother who told him that “I look at Jesus and he looks at me…” and the more he advanced in his vocation the more he realized it was all about spending time with One whom you love. It doesn’t have to be complicated.

I would take different prayer books and spiritual books with me.

Sometimes I would use them, and sometimes I would just sit quietly and talk to the Lord.

I would do different things, depending on what I felt moved to do.

Sometimes I would pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Sometimes I would pray different Litanies of the Saints. Sometimes I would read Bible passages.

I’ve been to Adoration once and it was right after I was received into the church. I didn’t know I was going to adoration and didn’t known what to do. I was like, “hey Jesus. I don’t know what to do.” And just sat there really uncomfortable. And I’ve never went back because it kind of embarrassed me.

I’m following this just to learn what to do! 😊:o
You may want to take a look at this web site. At the top are testimonials, numerous articles to build up your faith and stories of Eucharistic miracles. It also recommends reading material to get you started. I remember one of our nuns in parochial school would tell us that when we sit before the Blessed Sacrament we should say a simple little prayer, “Jesus, help my unbelief.” This is what Adoration does - it increases our faith to know we are in the Real Presence of the King. That belief leads to a greater love of Christ and a much deeper prayer life.

PLEASE do not stay away. The graces received are innumerable. Go to Jesus without any preconceived expectations of your own and ask Him to open your heart to receive whatever it is He is waiting to give to you. I promise, with the aid of His grace, you will be in for a transformation.

I go to Adoration, but not the signing up type where I pledge to visit at this particular hour or day. Lately I have more time due to my status. I sit there and adore the Eucharist. I also pray the Rosary (if I’m in the middle of a novena or offering it up for some other intention), prayers of Adoration like the Fatima prayers, Divine Mercy Chaplet. I also use this time to present my prayer intentions, both for myself and for others. And yes, I sometimes fall asleep; I also see others dozing off. I’ve also listened to relaxation and affirmation audio from a Catholic psychiatrist through my earphones for my emotional well being.
