I am gathering items to donate to charity that I know longer need or have room for. I have some religious books that I have used for study that I no longer need but am unsure what to do with them. For example, I have a version of the Protestant Bible I would like to donate. But since it does not include all the books of the Bible, and is therefore incomplete, part of me feels like I am promoting Protestantism by donating it. On the other hand, part of the Bible, even though it is flawed in translation, seems better than no Bible at all to someone who needs it.

I have some other books, whose content I disagree with. One books is Our Bodies, Ourselves. This book has several anti-Catholic comments and promotes abortion, birth conrtrol, etc. If I donate it, I feel like it could influence a woman to make a bad decision. But if I throw it away, it seems wasteful from an environmental perspective.

Am I being scrupulous or over thinking things? Should I donate them to charity? There isn`t away for me to recycle the paper so they either need to be donated or thrown away. What is better? I know this is a weird question but I am not sure of the best solution,

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Throw the harmful material away, donate the Bible to a used book ot second hand store.

I have an extensive personal library full of books on protestant theology (to which I used to adhere), Judaism, and Catholicism and probably 10 or more translations of the scriptures (many protestant and jewish). I’ve kept them all although I now hold to truths of the Catholic Church. I’m enjoying seeing the number of Catholic books increase, but still find value in these other works if only to remind me what many of my friends believe and they can be helpful in apologetic discussions.

That being said, if they make you uncomfortable, you can donate or discard them.

Blessings,

Brian
