Hi everyone,
I started to write something on Facebook, and it is becoming long, and I am not sure how to wrap it up. So I am sending it to all of you for comment and advice. It began as a reflection on John Paul II’s Theology of the Body, but I ended up going into guardian angels. I wasn’t sure how to conclude it so I end up rambling on. Do you have any ideas? What should I do with this, if anything? Should I publish any parts of this piece of writing, or save it for another time?
Here is what I wrote:
The greatest gift that God has given to each of us is the gift of life. God wanted to make the act of giving life to a new human being made in His own image the most beautiful, intense, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually gratifying act of love that any couple could ever experience together. That is why the act of sexual intercourse gives us such ecstasy. Why does God create? Because He is love, and a lover wants another like Himself to love. The nature of God is to exist, but also to love, and He creates in order to love. God is three distinct Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and He could go on loving Himself forever, but it is of His essence to want more individuals to exist so that He can love more who are not just Himself. God loves everyone He creates. Why don’t we love everyone we give life to? Why do we engage in acts that are designed to create life, when we don’t love giving life? We take the greatest gift God has given us to allow us to participate in the creation of new life, and cheapen it into a mere exploitation of each other for pleasure. Catholic teaching on human sexuality is not about saying you can’t do this or you can’t do that. The main thrust of Catholic teaching in the context of modern culture is not “You are wrong for doing this or that?” It is not what we are doing that is the problem, as much as it is what we are NOT doing, and that is cherishing life, and valuing the gift of life, and promoting the creation and development and nurturing of human beings, whom we today basically despise as a main thrust of our culture. We despise humanity for the most part. We despise human beings. If we like or can tolerate anyone, it is usually someone who we think makes us feel good. And when we engage in acts of frustrating the life giving purpose of human sexuality, we are basically saying to our partners, “I accept you totally, but I do not accept your fertility and your ability to create and love a new human being. That part I want nothing to do with. I just want you for how we make each other feel.” Do we really love each other, or do we merely lust for the pleasure another person can give to us. The Creator of the universe made each of us creators in His image. Are we going to be passionate about the principle of life in God’s creation, or are we going to be afraid and paranoid of it, trying to snuff it out whenever it encroaches upon our ability to give ourselves unlimited pleasure without responsibility for our actions? That is what we do when we engage in acts of contraception, abortion, sterilization, pornography, etc. It is a paranoia. It is a psychotic terror over the commitment that is required for a man and a woman to participate in the creation, nurturing, and development of a divine and beautiful human soul. We don’t want to be that committed to each other in today’s culture. We just want to feel good in the here and now, without any thought or consideration for what comes next, for what kind of future and example we are setting for coming generations of children and young people, if we don’t drive this nation and the world into Hell in a handbasket very soon. Do we want our children and grandchildren to despise human life as much as we do today? Are we going to be like the lying perverse Satan-Zeus worshipping environmentalist greenies who say it would be a good thing for the entire human species to go extinct? What the Hell kind of lust-filled exploitative culture are we creating, or at least tolerating if we are not directly participating in it?
All of our social problems stem from a disregard for the dignity of every human life, and for the creation of new life. If we write off a single human life, either actual or potential, as unimportant, or as something we regret or want to keep from existing, we are essentially a worshipper of Satan. We become followers of the belief of Satan and Satan-worshippers that mankind is simply a beast, only concerned with the pursuit of pleasure and the avoidance of pain for oneself. And we have really got to ask for the assistance of our guardian angels in this day, because they are the ones who protect us in battle with the Devil and all of his fallen evil spirits.
Angels are purely intellectual or spiritual beings. They have no physical bodies. Animals have no intellect but they have a physical body and a material “soul”. We, as human beings, are God’s most cherished creation, for we are the bridge between the material and the spiritual. We are like angels with physical bodies. We possess both spirit and a body.
