Currently at my school there are 2 Christian ministries available, one of which is a large communal gathering, and one is a small Bible study. The problem is that the teacher in charge of both is not Catholic and does not invite Catholic speakers to speak at the large meetings. The problem is, my friend who is Catholic, is becoming more Fundamentalist than Catholic.

I am there most of the time to answer his questions on the faith, I have noticed him drifting farther away from Catholicism. I have given him various books to read, but he does not enjoy reading so I do not know how much use they did. He is one of my best friends, and I truly do not want him to fall away from the faith, but I realize that I only have so little influence over him.

He does attend Church on Sunday, but he goes to the parish in our diocese that is not very strong in its teaching of the faith, but rather preaching.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Keep trying but do not get too emotional about it. Pray for your friend and the organizer of these events.

We cannot force adherence to God’s church. You are right to ask for help though. Maybe someone out here will have a good idea or two.

For me, I recommend being a good solid friend no matter what happens. In addition praying for this good person every day, when you are alone maybe just before bed and upon waking in the morning.

Your concerns are well placed. It is good of you to care so much about this friend. My image of a good friend is one that would carry me on a stretcher, pull me to the roof of a house, and let me down through the roof on ropes, right in front of Jesus to be cured by Him. Now that is a good friend. You are one too.

Have you considered using audio? Maybe asking him for his opinion on a tape or, even shorter, a download from places like Bible Christian Society. (very interesting, and Catholic)

and pray, and remain a steadfast example. God bless!

You and your friend should quit attending these gatherings. They are not usefull in reenforcing your Catholic faith. Does the campus have a Newman Center? You can get in touch with the local diocese and find out what kind of student ministries are available in the area. Try to set aside some time for you and friend to get together to say a rosary or find a parish with an adoration chapel.

Faith is From god and ONLY from God.

That said, I’d sugest tht you pray for him and discourage him from attending anymore anti-Catholic doctrination.

You may wich to share these Bible verses and facts with him?

ONLY One Church, One Faith and One new Covennt were founded by God himself: The Catholic Church.

**Matt. 16:15-19 "He [Jesus] said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! [Peters "sir-name] For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock [you Peter] I [Jesus] will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." ** This authority was later extended to all the Apostles and thre sucssors in Mt. 18:18.

John 10:16
And I have other sheep, that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice. So there shall be one flock, one shepherd.

Eph. 2:19-20 “So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, [singular] built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; [singular] in whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. “

**Eph. 4: 4 -8 **“There is one body [Only One Church] and one Spirit, [Only One set of beliefs] just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call, one Lord, [Only One God] ONLY one faith, [Only One set of doctrine and dogma] one baptism, By water in the Trinity] one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. "

And St. Paul issues this HARSH [but factual] waring for those considering abandoning Jesus and HIS FAITH!

Heb.6: 4 to 10: “For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened, [Baptized] who have tasted the heavenly gift, [CATHOLIC HOLY COMMUNION] and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, [CONFIRMED AS A CATHOLIC -your decision!] and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, [HAD THE BIBLE PROPERLY, FULLY AND TRUTHFULLY EXPLAINED AT MASS] if they then commit apostasy, since they crucify the Son of God on their own account and hold him up to contempt. For land which has drunk the rain that often falls upon it, and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed; its end is to be burned.”

DO ALOT OF PRAYING, and try to encourage your friend to pray daily for Faith; and Wisdom and Understanding.

POINT out that in the LORDS PRAYER; we petition God "Thy Kingdom come; thy WILL BE DONE; On Earth [just] as it is done it heaven…

Humbily, Obediently as GOD WANTS.

God Bless,
Pat
