What was the affect of the Passion on the Trinity?

While praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy we say to the Father “For the sake of His (Christ’s) sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.”

I started wondering how the passion and death of Jesus affected the Father and the Holy Spirit? The passion is the central event in the history of our redemption and it must have a profound effect on the Trinity. Can you shed some light on this?

It’s really the opposite: the Passion did not affect the Trinity; the Trinity affected the Passion. In fact, the three Persons of the Trinity actually determined that we be redeemed by the Passion. The Passion has had a profound effect on humanity; not God. Creatures can be affected by Divinity. But Divinity cannot be affected by creation. Certainly, Jesus was profoundly affected by the Passion in his human nature; but not in his divine nature.

By Christ’s Passion humanity was raised up before the Father in a way that it could never achieve by itself. But the change of humanity’s standing before God was initiated by Jesus because He is God.
