I don’t agree with Pinkers use of the term “consciousness”… He seems to be more concerned with the idea that -if the individual can’t feel pain due to an underdeveloped thalamus, then the individual isnt worth protecting… But that’s an opinion, and an incomplete understanding of what it means to be conscious.
Really, he should have avoided the term conscious, because science hasn’t declared what it exactly entails. What if the individual doesn’t feel the pain, but still feels life being taken away…? Also why does one feel obligated to strip away another individuals entire future…? What gives us the right to do that?
