One of the best things I’ve heard from converts when talking about their Protestant beginnings: “I was so blessed to be raised in a family that loved and worshiped God. Because of them I was given a strong foundation of the Bible. The Holy Spirit has led me to the Catholic Church which builds on that foundation and is enhancing greatly my spiritual life”.

It just sounded so sincere and charitable.

God Bless You.

👍 I’ve said similar when talking about my conversion. My mother especially - she actually took notes during sermons. How many people do that? 🙂

My husbands side and my son in laws side are protestant. When they come to visit we skip the Hail Mary and go with the Our Father as our prayer at dinner. We don’t take down our Catholic stuff, but we don’t put extra stuff out either.

As an interesting note, I often visit a nursing home in the area and bring Communion for the Catholic residents. We have been requested by Protestant friends to come to their room and pray. We always to, but we pick prayers we all agree on. Even Father visits them when he comes. We also have a Jewish friend at the nursing home who comes to Mass when we have it. She likes to hear the “Old Testament” story and the Psalms. When Father goes to visit her, he gives her a blessing and “skips the Jesus part”.

I see no problem with skipping the Mary part to be sensitive to others and their beliefs.

This!!! 🙂

I can relate so much to your post. I am a fourth generation protestant. My father is still a minister today in the Nazarene church. I was baptized and confirmed last year after a very long journey home. My husband and four out of six of my children along with us. You have received some valuable words of wisdom here. I agree with Convert99 and 1KE. Live your faith. Focus on that alone. All will fall into place eventually. Maybe not how you envision it, but that is okay. I am so passionate regarding my faith. I am finally experiencing the fullness that my heart longed for the last 40 years of my life. Focus on Jesus. Follow Him. Pray for family and friends. You may never know where someone else is in that journey even if you do not see it on the outside. Praying the Rosary has become a very important part of my daily life. Never underestimate what is going on behind the scenes of your dear ones individual walks of faith. One of my five sons who I considered the toughest one to ever come to Christ was baptized and confirmed on St. Benedict’s Day. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Continue to quietly shine your light and seek guidance from our Abba Father along with Mama Mary’s intercession. And refrain from overthinking 🙂

I would also like to add that I just read the post by po18guy and absolutely agree with this perspective 🙂
