What's better eschatology?

I’ll take the Magesterium of the Catholic Church, teachings revealed through the Holy Spirit, for $2000, Alex.

What does the Magesterium’s teachings have to say about proton decay and Hawking radiation? Did the Magesterium predict that stars will run out of energy when their fuel has been converted into iron through nuclear fusion, thus the universe will be dark and unable to support life?
 
Well, you did ask about eschatology. In my book, that is the final four; death, judgment, heaven and hell.

As a matter of fact, the Catholic Church has said from the start just exactly what you said though about the stars, etc. I reference Matthew 17 and 18 (the skies will be darkened, and the moon will shed no light) as well as Revelation (which also states that there will be great darkness, with one-third of the stars being ‘swept from the sky’ at the time of the great tribulation.)

That the Bible did not specifically say that this would happen due to ‘proton decay’ does not negate the fact that scientific theory seems to support not only Genesis (with the universe starting in darkness and then suddenly ‘light’ comes into play) but also Revelation and Matthew as to the ‘end of days.’ 2000 years on, and if anything the Bible is reinforced by science.

You’re correct, stars do not burn out due to proton decay (which has not been observed), but as I stated before it would happen when stars burn (through nuclear fusion, not combustion where chemical bonds are merely broken) their fuel into iron.

That’s like asking what a cookbook says about auto repair. You seem seriously confused about the Magisterium is and does.
 
the world is not going to end because of an inevitable decay of matter, like in Star Trek III. It will end because the majority of humanity, sparing the fullness of Jews and a Gentile remnant, will be departing from God and His Truth and Love in an irrevocable manner, that is, to such an extent that they can no longer be practically restored to faith. For then, once they have told the HS to take a hike permanently, there is nothing to “restrain” the iniquity that they will bring upon themselves, simply as fruits of their sins. Technically speaking, God wouldn’t even have to “destroy the world by fire” to end it. It would end because the apostates would first martyr the Church into non-existence, and then destroy themselves. But God won’t let it get that far. He’ll intervene and end human history “for the sake of the elect.”
 
I think it is interesting that in this article:

the theory states that the universe would end with all matter degenerating photons (light) and leptons.

I think its interesting that God is frequently referred to as “light”, and that according to this, the entire universe ends up as photons and leptons. I don’t take this article too seriously, I just found that kind of interesting…not sure if anyone else does though:p .
