In my area a couple years ago, legalized gambling was on the ballot (for about the 8th time), and they got it passed this time, so now we have casinos popping up all over the place, but I was curious how this happened and how we can get rid of it too…

The groups that wanted legalized gambling in this area, have been trying and trying for years, in the past, they have gotten it on the ballot, but it would fail every time, so basically it seems those who support something have an unlimited number of tries they can go for, and really, they could just keep trying and trying each year, until they get it passed…I know this has happened in alot of other areas too, regarding alot of different issues.

So, if supporters get unlimited attempts to pass something, its only fair those that oppose something should also get unlimited attempts to get the same thing on the ballot,(after its been passed), Why should they just give up? I have a feeling if they got gambling on the ballot for this november, it would fail…meaning all those casinos must now close.

I dont think its right for supporters to be able to keep trying and trying, and once they get it passed, they act like its all over LOL, Why shouldnt those who oppose something not get the same and equal treatment, then they could keep trying and trying until they get enough people to vote it down.

Does this make sense to anyone else?

i am just guessing here:

I think the only way to do it is to make a law that says gambling will NEVER be allowed in the state, or an amendment to State constitution saying such. This is the reason they could keep going back every year. If those opposing would have pushed for a law to never allow gambling and succeeded then it would be much harder to get gambling. For then they would have to attempt to get that law repealed, then attempt to make it legal.

Now that it is legal, good luck trying to get rid of it. Tax revenue for the State is very hard to get rid of.

I guess Im just surprised all the groups that fought so hard to campaign against the gambling issue 2 years ago, have pretty much given up, Ive heard absolutely NOTHING from them this year…this tells me they have given up, once gambling was passed…???

Why would they not be out as usual campaigning to get it back on the ballot this year, in hopes they could vote it down? In all the past times it was on the ballot, it failed every time, except for one, and it didnt pass by much, so I think if they at least tried to get it back on the ballot this year, they probably could have won, and then all those places would have to close down just 2 years after being allowed to open!!!

Gambling is not the only issue Ive seen this take place with though, Ive seen plenty of other issues that whenever something is passed and it becomes law, the opposing side pretty much gives up and does not try to get it back on the ballot the following 2 years, BUT for the supporters of such issues, they dont care if it fails time after time, they will keep trying and trying year after year until they get it passed.
