What's the best way to evangelize about the falsehoods of the Da Vinci Code movie?

I am curious as to what the best approach would be to keep people from supporting this movie.

What got me thinking about this was a mailing I received from Catholic Answers referring to those in Hollywood that support the production of this effort as “biggots”.

They may very well be “biggots” in the sense that they were so adament about rejecting The Passion of the Christ, yet there are no outcries regarding the production of The Da Vinci Code.

My personal thoughts on this is that we need to lovingly get them to see that they are so one-sided in their emphasis of what they feel society is “ready” to handle.

Admittedly, the best way how we show that love is what is unclear to me. Any thoughts?

I’m a little unclear on who you’re trying to reach–those in Hollywood who are supporting this movie, or the average uninformed person who is likely to go and see the movie?

I think we have to have some idea of what is going to be in the movie first.

It really does depend who is directing and who has creative control. Some movies, like King Arthur, seem to be made by violent anti-catholics who do not hesitate to tell any lie about the Church.

However in some cases, Hollywood tones down controversial books for the mass market. If the film does repeat the book’s lies about the Catholic Church, we need to protest loudly, and make sure everyone who attends the film knows that the “facts” in it are wrong, and cannot be relied on. I believe if it libels the Church it should be taken to court.

The book by its very nature is anti-Catholic.

To gut the anti-Catholic nature of the story would be to gut the story itself.

The plot is essentially that the Catholic Church covered up the “Holy Grail” as Mary Magdalen. I’m not sure you can hide that element in doing a movie about the Da Vinci Code and not make the Church look like it has something to hide regarding it.

It never fails in American Society that we live in. Movies that have a historical background are often conveyed a true Story. What many people don’t realize is that the Church has been accussed of this before, when talking about the Gospels. Dan Brown while a great writer is obviously stirring the pot, but he is embracing the uneducated and people who are not convinced of any historical truth. It’s what modern thinkers call, "Making on think."

**Well, may I write a book about those “modern thinkers” and play the same game… No, we are to be Christ like. **

Knowledge is power and if one is convinced without further research on the matter, then not only is Dan Brown obviously setting himself up for judgement, but the person who embraces the historical perspective of Dan Brown is setting his or herself up with judgement.

**Bearing false witness against thy neighbor is a sin. Especially when you start talking about the nature of Jesus Christ. **

Best way to evangelize about the falsehoods, is not to shove literature down their throats, obviously these people that embrace Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code theory are not the most intellectual and if they are intellectual, they have an agenda.

Best way to reach anybody is not to be deceiving, but to speak the truth. Truth doesn’t equate to numbers… nor does truth equate to historical accusations with a twist of fiction.

Use the Tract on Cracking The Da Vinci Code on this website. It’s verry good.

You can also go to the Opus Dei website (you can Google Opus Dei) and they will also have some information.

Then, you can find articles on various subjects that pertain to the heresies found in DVC by using the search function on this site.

God Bless,
Donna

Dan Brown while a great writer …

Having forced myself to read the book, this is arguable. 😃 The dialogue was so stilted, the characters so one-dimensional, and the storyline (what there was of it) so juvenile, I only completed it out of sheer will power. From a “research” standpoint, the book has been repeatedly panned by experts in history, art and architecture. The only thing he is great at, IMHO, is feeding ignorance and bigotry and wrapping it in the adolescent justification that “It’s only fiction!”

Micheal Moore and Dan Brown have the same approach, while we might disagree with their stories, there is deception and untruth in them. They are good at what they do, but it doesn’t make it right or truthful.

If someone is inclined to believe Dan Brown’s version of history, aren’t they likely to believe that a refutation of that version in Our Sunday Visitor, Envoy or Crisis magaiznes to be part of the “Roman Catholic Conspiracy”? Has anyone experienced this kind of self-reinforcing skepticism among family, acquaintances?

I compiled a list of Dan Brown errors and their refutation in secular sources on the web: shsu-catholic.org/da-vinci-con.htm

I’d appreciate comments, corrections.

The first thing to do is to educate yourself. There’s a lot of good stuff out there so it isn’t very hard to do. I can only imagine what it will be like once the movie comes out. People are fooled by this stuff already…
