What's the big deal about abortion?

I would get a medical abortion in a heartbeat if my birth control failed. It would not be a difficult choice at all. If, however, the fetus had developed to the point that a surgical abortion would be my only choice, I would be very hesitant and probably would not do it. That would indeed be a big deal.

That’s why I use highly effective birth control 👍
Scientifically speaking, life begins at conception. So what would your justification be? You KNOW that you would be killing a person, so what makes that ok? Because they can’t feel pain? Because they are small? Because its legal and you CAN? If you know it is a human being with unique DNA, what makes it acceptable to kill it?

Just trying to understand your rationale here.

Life does begin at conception. Why would any woman go out and buy a home pregnancy test? What does being pregnant mean? It means there’s a baby.

To those taking birth control pills, have you read the risks associated with taking them?

Peace,
Ed

(I have Mirena for health reasons. My insurance is Catholic, and will not pay for contraceptives unless they are being used to treat a medical condition.
They initially denied coverage, as per their policy. Then I wrote them a letter and my doctor write them a letter saying it was for my condition. Coverage was approved. Mirena is Catholic-approved.) so which is it? health reasons or birth control? the second quote is your post of 4/19/12, i hope this isn’t insurance fraud.

I wasn’t even sexually active when I first got it. I am now. So it serves two purposes. Please take it to PM if you have anything more to say regarding this.

Size/stage of development. Size only insofar as it relates to how developed it is. I am honestly one of those that sees it as just a blob of cells in the early stages.

It having unique DNA is not significant to me.

So many “pro-choicers” say that an abortion is the hardest thing a woman will ever do, the toughest decision a woman will ever have to make. Why?

Putting down an old, faithful pet is a very tough decision.
Great pain does not seem to be a sure-fire indication of known moral wrong.
Great joy does not seem to be a sure-fire indication of known moral right.

By the time a woman finds out she is pregnant, she is about 4 weeks along.

Fetal Development at 4 Weeks

At this point of development the structures that eventually form the face and neck are becoming evident. The heart and blood vessels continue to develop. And the lungs, stomach, and liver start to develop. A home pregnancy test is now positive.

Fetal Development at 8 Weeks
The baby is now a little over half an inch in size. Eyelids and ears are forming, and the tip of the nose is visible. The arms and legs are well formed. The fingers and toes grow longer and more distinct
RU-487, given for medical abortions can be used up until 9 weeks.

NOT A BLOB OF TISSUE.

If an abortion doesn’t kill a human being, if abortion is not murder, if abortion is not morally reprehensible, then what’s the big deal?

It’s a complete contradiction. Pro-choice advocates go on and on about this being such an agonizing decision. They’re proving our point! Of course it’s an agonizing decision, because by getting an abortion, you are choosing your own convenience over a human life. Otherwise, it would just be a medical procedure, like getting your tonsils out.

Who agonizes over getting their tonsils out? Who needs the support of friends to get their tonsils out? Who tries to hide the fact that they got their tonsils out? Nobody!

Having one’s tonsils out is a mildly painful surgery with no moral implications.

Abortion is a mildly painful medical procedure as well, but with the result of killing a human life. Even the pro-choice people know this, which is why they tout the fact that it is such a painful decision for women.

Their own argument fails right there. It’s painful because it’s wrong, and een the most hardened, pro-choice people know its wrong deep down, or it wouldn’t be a big deal. They make our argument for us. How can they not see this?

Whenever someone gets up and starts spouting off about how hard it is to make such a decision, we should all simply ask “Why?”, and watch them try and answer that simplest of questions.

WHY is getting an abortion such a hard decision if there is nothing wrong with it?
The issue is whether it is a life, and honestly, most pro-choicers agree it is. This is why pro-choice advocates applaude laws that criminalize the death of a fetus if done by a person other than the mother. For example, if I am drunk and hit a woman’s car, and her fetus dies, in most states I’ve committed either manslaugter or a murder. Women of pro-choice side would cry and grieve over the loss of life. Not the loss of her choice. But the loss of her life. This is why the pro-life argument is valid and correct. This is also why the pro-choice side is now using clergy to say prayers because it gives a false sense of morality for the women and practitioners who commit this murder.

Do they?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unborn_Victims_of_Violence_Act#Opposition
The Unborn Victims of Violence Act was strongly opposed by most pro-choice organizations, on grounds that the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision said that the human fetus is not a “person” under the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution, and that if the fetus were a Fourteenth Amendment “person,” then he or she would have a constitutional right to life. However, the laws of 36 states also recognize the human fetus as the legal victim of homicide (and often, other violent crimes) during the entire period of pre-natal development (27 states) or during part of the pre-natal period (nine states).[5] Legal challenges to these laws, arguing that they violate Roe v. Wade or other U.S. Supreme Court precedents, have been uniformly rejected by both the federal and the state courts, including the supreme courts of California, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota.[6]
