What's the Church's interp. of Zechariah 11:8-9?

In one month I destroyed the three shepherds. But, I became impatient with them, and they also detested me. So I said, " I will not be your shepherd. What is to die, let it die; what is to be destroyed, let it be destroyed; and those that are left devour the flesh of one another."

I am not aware of any official teaching on the passage. Here’s what Haydock’s Commentary says:*Ver. 8. Month. That is, in a very short time. By these three shepherds probably are meant the latter princes and high priests of the Jews, whose reign was short. (Challoner) — Ismael, Joseph, and Ananus, all obtained the dignity in one year; and as they and their predecessors were actuated by avarice, they could not fail being displeasing to God. Galba, Otho, and Vitellius were likewise cut off in little more than a year, when Vespasian succeeded, and his son took Jerusalem. (Calmet) — The Jews pretend that Moses, Aaron, and Mary[Miriam] are here meant. (St. Jerome) — But what reference can the prophet have to them?

Ver. 9. Not feed. This is the final sentence. God allowed them thirty-seven years to repent, after the death of Christ.*

The entire Old Testament is fulfilled with the Advent of Christ. Jesus is the good shepherd (John 10:11)

So I became the shepherd of the flock to be slaughtered for the sheep merchants. I took two staffs, one of which I called “Favor,” and the other, “Bonds,” and I fed the flock. (Zech 11:7)

The Pharisees were the spiritual descendants of shepherds of Israel who were denounced by the prophets as worthless and evil (John 10:8; Mt 23:29-36)

In a single month I did away with the three shepherds. I wearied of them, and they behaved badly toward me. “I will not feed you,” I said. “What is to die, let it die; what is to perish, let it perish, and let those that are left devour one another’s flesh.” (Zech 11:8-9)

Now its clear the Church is the Key ! Its the Final Temple. Now, its time to re-read Revelation … and it should make more sense. I think Grant Jeffreys needs to rethink his read of prophetic scriptures.

Christ is the Key and the Final Temple. The Church is also in the fact that He is the head and we are the body.

Zechariah pointed to the New Covenant of Christ’s Advent and Revelation reveals the fulfillment of it. The staffs that seperated Judah and Israel from each other (and the Gentiles) gave way to a new creation in the New Covenant. Just like the Law and Prophets (two witnesses) of the Old Covenant died then rose with Christ.
