I was attending a Catholic group meeting the other night and this question came up.

The speaker did explain the difference between the two but I didn’t pay attnetion as I thought all the while that man is made up of body and soul, and that ‘soul’ is the same as ‘spirit’.

What’s your idea on this?

Thanks.

To St. Paul, the soul is “the principle of the sensible life and seat of the passions. Spirit, on the other hand, is the most elevated part of the soul by which it resembles God, i.e. the reason informed by grace” (A Catholic Commentary on Holy Scripture, 916e).
