Hey there. I’m curious: what is all your confirmation names and why?

Mine is Genesius because he is the patron saint of actors, and when I was confirmed I practically lived and breathed theatre.

If the Lord says the same, it will be Jude Francesca this upcoming Easter Vigil! St. Jude has been with me since I was a child, and St. Francesca Romana found me.

Kateri (back when she was Blessed not yet a saint). First Native American saint and someone who gave up quite a bit to follow Christ.

St. Paul the Apostle.

I find his writtings very edifying on a few different levels emotional and theological as well as practical.

During my conversion I often asked him to help me understand his writtings. I was close to him as a protestant as well and had always seen him as a proponent of Sola Fide.

So I believe he guided my understanding and prayed for me so it’s partially a thank you I suppose.

Another Kateri here. I read her biography in about 5th grade and just fell in love with her.

Lucia, Patron Saint for eye maladies and also throat infections.

Elizabeth Rose. She was a Benedictine nun and then abbess. Later in life, she became an anchorite and spent the rest of her life living in a hollow tree (presumably, a really big hollow tree). She seems to be very overlooked, and also I just like the name. And our priest was very approving of it.

Hope.

I suppose I was being a bit of a rebel - I didn’t pick that as a saint’s name. But it fit the circumstances well.

Stephen . He was the first martyr .

This is a picture my parents gave me as a present when I received the sealing of the Gift of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation .

John, for John or Don Bosco. A great Saint with some similar interests to mine, which helps inspire me to emulate him albeit poorly.

Peter, for my grandfather, actually. And I think everyone’s familiar with his namesake…

Mine was Mark, for the Evangelist, but also for my good friend in school whose name was Mark. I was either 12 or 13 years old when I was confirmed, so I didn’t really give the choice of a confirmation name a lot of thought. I was still a carefree kid back then.

Cecilia (you could probably make an informed guess right?!) - patron saint of musicians (I’m a bassist).
I actually had two - the other appears in Acts 16…one for you to research! 😉

Anybody else here confirmed in the late 70s that were told (as a group (8th grade parochial school)) that they should confirm under their given names and not pick a Saint?
I’m guessing in hindsight they were trying to be very "progressive ". I, at least, felt kinda cheated at the time and very disappointed now that I’m older (grateful that at least I was named after Our Lady so it was a proper Saint name).

For all the 12 years of Catholic school and 4 years of Catholic university that I attended it has only been the last couple years while researching to revert that I’ve realized how poorly chatechized I was and the traditions I’d missed just by virtue of growing up when I did.

Mary Magdalene. She’s been better for me than I initially realized!

St. Martin de Porres of course. Patron of the mixed race people and social justice.

Just asking. Does confirmation name appears in our passports and identity cards?

No, it’s typically unofficial. I do know a couple of people who legally changed their names to include it, or in past generations it became included because records were not as meticulously consistent.
