What are some of your favorite Music pieces written for Church?

It’s a hard decision, but probably Mozart’s “Ave Verum Corpus” and Pachalbel’s Canon in D. Love them.
They played Pachalbel’s Canon (is that how you spell it?) in Church on Easter Sunday. I almost cried, it was so beautiful.

UGH, Pachebel’s Canon. The most often played and butchered piece in the catalogue.

I leave you with this:

A contemporary popular song with religious overtones. You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban comes to mind. (and I know the TradCats) will hate this answer)

Sorry about that ,but it’s very funny.

My favorite piece for post-communion is “Take Lord, Receive” done very well by one solo singer and minimal accompaniment.
Beautiful prayer.
For Recessional, Alleluia! Alleluia! Give Thanks to the Risen Lord! Such a joyful hymn and a great descant!

Yes, of course. But that’s because you rarely hear it.
We musicians have to play it constantly, And we’re pretty sick of it, LOL 😝

I can understand that your sick of it if you hear it constantly. 😉

Anyone would become sick of a piece of music if they heard it too often. Even if it was their fave piece.

Oh I love that piece. The text is a profound prayer!

We don’t sing hymns like that in my current parish – too hippy happy for our extremely conservative pastor. 😂 No worries, though, I can still listen to it on my own, or play it on the piano or guitar at home.

One of my favorite pieces that we actually sing at mass these days is “Abide With Me.”

My favorite recessional pieces is “All Creatures of Our God and King” and all its various iterations with different lyrics (the Easter version is “Jesus Is Risen, Let Us Sing”). I love opening up the stops on the organ and filling the sanctuary with music for this one! 😄
