I go back and forth on this. I like bits and pieces from a lot of them. Orbis factor (XI), Kyrie magnae Deus potentiae (V), Cunctipotens Genitor Deus (IV), Cum jubilo (IX), Lux et origo(I) are all great. Also a big fan of the Ambrosian Gloria IV.

Anyway, I’m not sure which I would pick as my favorite. Anyway, discuss 🙂

I was going to add a poll, but the max is 10 choices and there are 18 settings!

Also, if you want to hear each one:

I listened to the various Kyries through numer XII, from the link provided. I think that Mass XI would be my favorite, but VII, VIII, and IX are nice, too. Actually, I like all of them! The Kyrie is one of my favorite parts of the Mass. “Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy.” The Greek language seems to lend itself well to this part of the Mass.

VIII is the one that’s most familiar to people. You tend to hear it in most papal masses or anywhere where the Kyriales are used for the ordinary form. It’s kind of the “radio friendly” version of the Kyralies. Pleasant and easy to pick up the melody. It’s one that I like but I feel is too overdone to be a favorite :p.

I’m not that fond of VIII. Too overdone and it isn’t really Gregorian chant (post-dates it by many centuries in fact).

XI is good, I very much like I and IX, but others too. I also like the Ambrosian Gloria.

IX is by far my favorite! It is a great reminder of the beauty of Our Lady.
