To all my bretheren,

I am a teenager returning to the Catholic Church. I was **baptized Catholic **as an infant, but I never recieved any other sacraments and I was raised an Evangelical/Fundamentalist. I am currently in RCIA. 😃

Anyways, I have a question:

Would it be permissible for me to go to confession *before *my confirmation or my first Eucharist on the Easter vigil???

I have studied on how to give a good confession, any thoughts?? 🙂

yes if you were baptized Catholic (or any other valid baptism) you must confess all mortal sins you are aware of before Confirmation and first Communion. You will be prepared for this during your class, first learning the moral teachings of the Church and then how to examine your conscience and how to confess your sins (and the reasons for this sacrament and teaching on the nature of this sacrament).

Antonius,

That’s great to hear that you’re returning to the Church!

www.catholic.com should prove to be a great resource in your continued growth in the faith.

To answer your question: If you are in RCIA and you have never been to confession before, then it should be on the list of things to do before the Easter Vigil. Ask your RCIA director, “when does the class make their individual confessions?” He/she should be able to answer you and provide a date for your confession. After speaking with your RCIA director, you could also go and speak with a priest of your choosing to get a feel for what confession will be like.

Confession is one of the greatest gifts from God.

Pax,

Prince Caspian we had to set a meeting with the priest on our own. One for him to review us individually, a chance for us to ask questions of him and for confession if we choose to use the opportunity and did not mind face to face…

At our parish, The RCIA, as a group, goes to confession prior to the Easter Vigil Mass. Ask your RCIA director or priest. Each parish may have different programs that we are not aware of.

Congratulations on your return! Welcome home! Praise God!

Yes, make a good confession as soon as you are prepared, before the Easter Vigil, so that you can receive the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist in a state of grace.:clapping: :dancing:

The answer is simply, Yes.

As a baptised catholic you may go to confession whenever you feel the need and are ready. Easter is a long way from now. If you feel ready, go.

Welcome back and may you receive his grace along your journey.

The Pastor is the person who is in charge of celebrating the Sacraments in his parish. Make an appointment with him and ask if you can go during Advent. Since you are already Baptized there is no need for you to wait until the Easter Vigil to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. Confirmation can be received with the rest of the young people your age.

During Advent, our Church is having a day when all the parishoners come for the sacrament of Reconciliation. There are a good many priests their to ensure the parishoners can have individual confessions; would it be appropriate for me to go then???
