When did devotion to the Immaculate Conception begin?

Hello all,

My first post. Hope I do this right.

Am I correct in that the doctrine concerning the Immaculate Conception originated from Mary’s revelation to Bernadette?

Also, what is the origin of the doctrine concerning Mary’s assumption into heaven?

Welcome. We hope this is the first of many.

The dogma of Mary’s Immaculate conception was pronounced in 1854. But the teaching goes back to Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition. Mary first spoke of it to St. Catherine Laboure and gave her the Immaculate Conception Medal which became associated with so many miracles, that it become known as the Miraculous Medal. A few years later, she appeared to Bernadette and spoke of it again. For more read this:
