I am confused to where in the timeline did Job live in relation to Abraham?

Also where did he live? I thought I read somewhere that Job lived in Asia. I’m assuming it means Iran or Iraq.

If you tally up people’s ages you may be able to come up with a likely time frame for Job’s era. According to Ginzberg (philologos.org/__eb-lotj/vol2/three.htm):
  • Job was grandson of Esau;
  • Job’s second wife was Dinah, daughter of Jacob;
  • Job was also known as Jobab, king of Edom;
  • Eliphaz was a son of Esau;
  • Bildad, Zophar, and Elihu were sons of Shuah, Naamat, and Barachel, respectively, who were sons of Buz, brother of Job and nephew of Abraham.

Wow! I have never heard that Job was the grandson of Esau. Very interesting.

Thanks.

After doing the math, I see that Abraham died when Esau was 15; therefore Job must have been born several decades after Abraham’s time, and was alive at the same time as the Twelve Sons of Israel.
