What year did you join Catholic Answers Forums?

If you had to create a new user name during the 2017 changeover, explain in a new post.

Ditto.

Mostly read only on old format, became more active with the new format.

May 19, 2004, when I was user #700-and-change.

Then I subsumed an alternate identity when the forum “improved” and threw away something near half my history. 😠

[eta: I didn’t have to change. I just wanted to since half my history was kaput]

Yes, somewhere it had me listed for less posts, but I did not have to change my username, just my password, if I recall.

Started in 2004.
With some moderator assistance, I was able to keep my account through the forum change.

I feel old and a little lonely not seeing very many accounts as old as my own.

I think there are some people around, but some may have different usernames. A bunch of people never crossed over to the new CAF, and I am sure a few may have been suspended.

I think I lost about 25% of my posts (went from about 20K to 15K). It was mostly the Back Fence and Clubhouse posts as those two categories were not migrated over, sadly. It was only because posters hijacked the #site-feedback section for game threads that they added the #casual-discussion. But, alas, it was a clean slate without the Water Cooler of yore.

I thought of starting over with a new username, but decided to just stick with the one I had.

Wasn’t elder first? I forget the order. Maybe Joe can tell us! He is good at finding old stuff. 😉

For some reason that I can’t recall, when they switched to the New CAF, I couldn’t figure out how to bring my account over, so I created a new account with an unrelated random name and was quite active on it.

More than a year later, I decided I wanted my old name back. By that time, the procedure was simple and fully automated: At the login prompt, I entered Beryllos, clicked on “Forgot my password,” a password reset email was sent, I was back, and I abandoned my newer account.

Elder was the top rank. I had to double check. It went: Trial, New, Junior, Regular, Senior, Veteran, Forum Master, Forum Elder.
