When did you first know that your finance/spouse/boy or girl friend was “the one”? When did you meet?

I love hearing these stories =]
How fun! Neither one of us remember the exact time we truly “met”, but I remember the first time I saw him. I was 18 and he was 20. It was my first Sunday on campus and I and a couple other freshmen girls walked over to the Newman Center for mass. The doors were locked. He then walked up with two of his friends, looking so nice in a pair of dress pants, blue dress shirt and tie. We all stood around waiting for the doors to open, but it never did, so we all went to different places for mass. It turns out the Newman Center didn’t open till the following Sunday.

We do know that the only place we could have actually met was at the Newman Center. I was a music minister and he was a lector. Then we also became elected core group reps for the university for a couple of years. We were friends first and didn’t start dating until I was a junior in college and he was a first year grad student.

I knew he was the one almost immediately after starting to date him, but that scared me half to death. I was always a girl of caution and practicality. He knew almost immediately as well and was more open to telling me that. The first time I “told” him that I loved him and knew the I loved him was Palm Sunday - about a month after we started dating. I had been to mass at home. My mother dropped me off at the dorm and he took me outside of the city (where our university was) where we went to a wildflower preserve. We were both still wearing our Sunday clothes. I was wearing this really pretty Laura Ashley long dress that I bought while studying in England and he a nice pair of pants, shirt and tie. We strolled through the woods of the flower preserve holding hands and he got to see that I was truly a nature girl because I didn’t care I was in a dress. I took off my shoes and ran through the woods, playing a game of hide and seek. The day was so incredibly beautiful. Everything was green and lush, the sun shined in that pristine spring way. After that wonderful afternoon, he took me to dinner at an inn along the river and then in the evening on our way back to the university, we stopped alongside a corn field to look up at the stars and asking him all about the different consellations and such. He totally took my heart that day. I saw such beauty in him, but was afraid to tell him how much I loved him. So, I wrote it on his leg with my finger. He apparently pretended that he didn’t know what I wrote, but later told me he knew and it made him love me even more.

Anyway, that’s my story.
