I know that we do not say Amen at the end of the Our Father during Mass. But many people don’t say Amen when they pray the Our Father outside of Mass. For instance, during the Rosary many people don’t say “Amen” at the end of the Our Father.

I found a list of Common Prayers on the Catholic Answers web site and it includes Amen at the end of the prayer. But when I pray the Divine Office on divineoffice.org the Amen is left off. So is there a rule as to when the Amen is said and when it is not?

Hi,

We end the “Our Father” with the “Amen” because “Deliver is from evil.” is the end of the prayer. At Mass, “For thine is the kingdom” is a liturgical ending the the Church adds on. Outside of Mass the “Amen” should not be omitted. This goes for the Liturgy of the Hours as well. Where-ever I have been for the chanting of the Hours, the “Amen” is always said, unless “For thine is the kingdom” is added.
