When during the Lenten season are statues in a Catholic church suppose to be covered with purple cloths?

Holy Week. Though at my parish, they covered them a few days early my mom said (she attends daily Mass).

This practice would not seem to be mandatory. Haven’t seen it done for decades in numerous parishes with which I’m familiar / involved.

From the V Sunday.
FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT
The practice of covering crosses and images throughout the church from this
Sunday may be observed, if the Conference of Bishops so decides. Crosses remain
covered until the end of the celebration of the Lord’s Passion on Good Friday, but images
remain covered until the beginning of the Paschal Vigil.

tee_ef_em, Thank you for enlightening me about the covering of the statues and crosses.

Another instruction, for the Thursday of Holy Week, after the Transfer of the Most Blessed Sacrament is:

“41. At an appropriate time, the altar is stripped and, if possible, the crosses are removed from the church. It is expedient that any crosses which remain in the church be veiled.”
