Hello guys, I have just a quick question about something! I’m a young adult, but I really enjoy watching cartoons. Not like adult cartoons (like Bob’s Burgers or South Park), but like, cartoons that are safe for a younger audience. Some of my current favorites are Amphibia, Infinity Train, and Gravity Falls. I know it’s not a sin to watch these shows per se, but I’m a bit wary because I’m an adult and the Bible says that when we grow up, we need to “put the ways of childhood behind us.” Am I just overthinking it?

If it’s not interfering in your spiritual life or your duties then it should be fine.

Peace.

It also says we need to become like little children to enter the kingdom of Heaven!! 🙂

There’s nothing wrong with watching those shows. I’m sure God prefers those over most of the stuff being aired today 😮

Enjoy your shows

I think you can enjoy things like those you listed as long as they do not get in the way of seeking after god. Just like any tv show or pastime, if you engage in that past time and neglect prayers, scripture and time for spiritual maturation than it is a problem.

Thank you so much!! I like how a lot of modern cartoons have really. good writing, realistic character development, and aren’t afraid to deal with heavier emotional topics.

and the fact that there’s no sex, coarse language, or nudity is always a plus!

Have you ever watched the last Airbender series, I have always enjoyed that one.

I plan on watching that next now that it’s on Netflix! I follow a Catholic blogger who loves that show!

Agreed! Hopefully the do the upcoming live action show justice!

I heard the show’s original creators stepped away from the live-action show’s production… that’s not a super good sign 😬

Overthinking it, for sure.

I still think Spongebob is entertaining. 😂

The cartoons I watch are newer, plot-driven shows that have more of an overarching narrative, but when I was little I absolutely loved Tom and Jerry! Although the episode where Tom goes to heaven and hell always scared me lol

No it’s horrible lol however I’m riding on the hope that Netflix is feeling the pressure of the failure of the movie and will step it up.

“Imaginaaaation” 🌈

But seriously, it’s okay to enjoy innocent childhood entertainments.

St Paul is referring to being child-ish. Refusing to grow up and take on adult roles, of not standing on your own two feet and owning your faith.

that’s what I always interpreted the verse to mean, thanks so much!

I am 50 years old and still watch the Charlie Brown cartoons and Bugs Bunny. I grew up on these and it takes me back to my childhood. I think in this case childish means foolish ie don’t do foolish things anymore.
