When is something impure and a mortal sin?

Hello there!

About four months ago, a school mate and I were having a chat, and at some point of it I caressed his arm (showing him where I had hit myself while playing football) and on another occasion I was so happy that I hugged another classmate. What is killing me is that I dont really remember what my intention was. I kinda remember doing it because I wanted to be like all those romcom girls who get the attention of boys.
Now I know that it’s stupid and vain, and therefore not what we as Catholics should aim for…but could this have been a mortal sin? I didn’t confess it last time because I wasn’t sure on how to explain myself with the priest and thought I was being scrupulous, but now I am extremely worried I committed sacrilege. What should I do?

Merely making physical contact with someone is hardly impure, much less is it a mortal sin. Nothing of what you’ve described seems at all inappropriate. And if you don’t know whether something is a mortal sin, you can’t possibly have committed one.

The way you describe your worries about this are the bigger concern here. You need to seek some help for the kind of worry this is causing you.

If you struggle with scrupulosity, you shouldn’t ask these kinds of questions here. It will only feed your compulsions. Seek the help of a priest and a counselor.

You are in my prayers.
