When praying to God.....

I often find myself thinking of Christ and picture Jesus from the Passion of the Christ, or of the suffering that Christ went through, but it is often pictures or scenes from the Passion of the Christ. Is this bad that I’m thinking of a movie during my prayer time?

Of course not! The scenes from a movie are aiding you in your meditation. Just like if one were to look at a religious statue, or artwork of some kind.
 
Amen! God has provided a way for us to picture better a scene we did not physically experience today in time, but gave us the tools to enter into the eternity of experiencing it. I think its wonderful that you actually meditate when you pray (I do too), instead of “saying” your prayers. Much more fruitful to “pray” than “say”…

If that brings you close to God, then do it. Do it all the time! 🙂

Of course not! It’s the exact same as getting inspiration from a religious picture. If you were thinking of a secular poster of a cat clinging to a laundry line with a caption that said “Hang in there baby!” on it during prayer… that might be a problem… but if you’re thinking of a picture of Christ Crucified while praying, then that’s great! Same with movies. Thinking of “American Beauty” while praying: bad idea. Thinking of “The Passion of the Christ” while praying: excellent idea! 🙂

I think there is a Catholic term for this…it is contemplative praying or a form of it.
