I’m enrolled in RCIA and we are due to complete in time for Easter vigil, which I think is the standard timing. But I don’t think my anulment will be completed and approved by Easter (if at all, I know it’s not a guarantee) and so I have a question.

If I complete the course, and my anulment is approved in for example in July, is the priest allowed to let me join the church at any given time rather than only at Easter? I just wasn’t sure if that was set in the standards or just common tradition. I would love to join and be able to start communion without having to wait an additional year. Thanks for your help.

I have someone in my parish that has been in RCIA for over a year, but her husband has never filed for his annulment, so she has to wait at least another year until the next Easter Vigil. Speak to your Pastor and ask him if you can be Baptized some time after it is completed (if it is after the Easter Vigil).

A candidate can be (and should be) received into the Church when he or she is ready. There’s nothing preventing you from being received during the Summer, Fall, or whenever the Tribunal issues their ruling. There would also be no reason to wait until next Easter.

In our parish candidates in your circumstance are received whenever they are ready, not just at the Easter Vigil. Good luck and WELCOME HOME!!

Is the op a candidate? I assumed the op was a catechumen because of the Easter Vigil completion date.

In another thread she described herself as growing up Protestant, so I took that to mean she was already baptized.

I am baptized, yes. Thank you for your replies. Very helpful 🙂

If you are baptized you can be received into the Church soon after your annulment comes through. Ideally, RCIA should be a year round process so it won’t end and you just continue to attend, even after you are received into the Church for awhile.

At our Church, after the person has gone through RCIA, the are received whenever they can enter by canon law. Normally, everyone enters on Easter, but anyone with an impediment will enter as soon as the impediment is removed.

I was received into the Catholic church before my annulment, in fact I was in the middle of divorce proceedings when I was confirmed.

Being divorced is not an impediment. Being divorced and re-married is.

Ok, I didn’t pick up on that in this discussion. I was starting to think maybe my priest did my confirmation wrong. During my RCIA process I kept worrying someone was going to find a reason why I wasn’t allowed to be Catholic. (I had a history of churches growing up that were big on shaming people- still sometimes a little shell shocked)

yes, sorry, I wasn’t totally clear on my details in my original post. I am a baptized Protestant who is divorced, and remarried, and now wishing to enter the Catholic Church 🙂 It’s rather complicated for me to keep straight lol!

The answer is yes; but I think it may require Diocesan permission? Discuss it with your pastor. They promise not to bie:)

God Bless you and welcome home

I came into the Church if February in a small parish in a small town. I did not even need to go through RCIA . ( They however knew me and my 3 year study of the Catholic faith on my own. I also spent a few months visiting with our priest and he felt I was ready.) That was my experience.

You can be received into the Church as soon as the annulment comes through. You shouldn’t have to wait until the next Easter Vigil. Hopefully it will go through in time for the Easter Vigil. It is such a beautiful liturgy.
