I learned that Catholic don’t eat meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all Fridays during lent. But one of teachers who was born in a Catholic family told me that we don’t eat meat on Wednesdays during lent, either. And one of friends who might not be Catholic told me that she doesn’t eat any meat during these forty days. So I am a little bit confused. When should we not eat meat during lent?

USCCB:
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for [Latin] Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence.
Throughout history abstinence practices have had various forms and exceptions. Abstinence on Wednesdays is a form of an older practice that is not currently part of the Latin Church rules.

As for your friend who doesn’t eat meat for 40 days, either she is confused about the Church’s rules or this is a personal choice of her’s.

Another possibility is that your friends belong to one of the Eastern Catholic Churches that have a different set of fasting and abstinence rules.
