Do you capitalize the word “mass” when referring to any mass? I used capitalize it as a child, but stopped somewhere along the way, and I’m not sure why.

Also, what about “rosary” and any of the 7 Sacraments?

Thanks so much!
Happy Thanksgiving 🙂

I would capitalise all those you mentioned. Especially the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass 🙂

Because of all the teaching I do and the handout material I create. I have a habit of capitalizing all the “special” words I want to call attention to.

I capitalize all those words. As I’m typing (98wpm) I sometimes go too fast to press the caps button. And as I’m reading my post back to myself, I sometimes notice that I didn’t capitalize “Mass” and it just looks strange to me. It just looks like the word “mass” as in “a body of matter” or something. But we are talking about the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass so I think it should ALWAYS be capitalized. :yup: I wouldn’t be surprised if I missed it at one time or another though. :o No one’s perfect. So don’t worry. 😉

It is a proper name and all proper names according to good English grammar (note English is capitalized but grammar is not) all proper names are capitalized.

There is current debate about doing this for the masculine pronouns when referring to God. However, those those argue against capitalizing those pronouns usually are arguing from an obscure feminist agenda or secular agenda so as not to offend. Since, offending error is not itself an error I don’t find their argument credible and thus I continue to capitalize the God pronouns as often as possible even when it harmed by grade on a paper.
